emmuzkaBefore christmas, I promised to became a test person for a medical research, since they needed people who were a) over weight, b)not on any medication, and c) willing to participate.
This week the whole thing came to action as I went last wednesday to give blood samples in the laboratory. They were very good, but since my veins won't co-operate easily, I have now a very ugly looking bruise in my arm. Since I have a bruise in my other arm, too, as I donated blood to the Red Cross on Easter, I now look like a heroin addict. Joy.
Anyway. Yesterday I went to a magneto-whatthehell-thingie. They scanned my brain. So, I have now a proof that I have a brain! The procedure lasted a little over 20 minutes, but you have to lay absolutely still and you are placed in a tube that is smaller than a coffin. Urgh. So, not intolerable, but not very fun, either. And, I had to remove all metal within me, which meant no zippers, buttons, bra clasps, watches, eye glasses or earrings.
In the next two weeks time, I will have a PET scan done to me,(three times!) which is the actual test part. They give me intravenously either glucose or water and after that, scan my brain to find out what exactly the sugar shock will do to the brains. They don't tell you whether you are going to get sugar or water. As if I wouldn't know! It's like 40g of pure sugar! In PET you are actually given radioactive stuff for the machine to work. Huh.
For all this, I will get 200€ and my personal medical results. Yay.
Hmm. from here I could get all the episodes of Homicide in 200€, and that's after the taxes!
Should I? Should I not? The test subject money is completely unbudgeted, until now.
