A minute ago linzeestyle made me realize that as a fandom, American Idol S8 will be a summer fling. Summer will turn to fall, people will start their own solo careers, and AI Season 9 will take the place where the canon should be. Granted, popslash continued *years* without actual canon, but I highly doubt pairings like Kradam lasting that long.

Doesn't stop me from loving this any less. As a matter of fact, AI 8 is another perfect example of fans mixing effortlessly fan fiction-fangirling and "regular" fangirling. I think that started with bandom? There is no more (except when there is) different, "real life" fans with their different, separate forums and communities, but it's all mixed up now.

Anyhow. I love this guy, and when/if the fandom fades, I will continue to love him, because they guy just shines. And, you know. Just look as him:

I did not mean to be depressing! I think we have a good chance of moving seamlessly into a Glambert fandom, actually -- but I think it will be more along the lines of, 'we all love Glambert and he randomly shows up in our other fanfic,' rather than a concentrated "fandom" with written and re-written pairings and ships like AI8 is right now. I think that's the biggest problem, actually: I can't think of a fandom that's sustained a fanfic base when there hasn't been a main pairing or pairings, and once Kris and Adam go their separate ways there really won't be anyone to steadily pair off Adam with.

Of course, who knows how long AI8 fandom will last. I maintain that part of the reason it blew up so fast, so hard was because bandomers needed a refuge, and that need isn't going to go away. We might last until the next bandwagon comes along. I just hope it isn't Merlin, because...Merlin. :-/

I honestly can't stop watching the Bowie medly. I'm going to need a 12 step program soon. Holy shit, Adam Lambert.

I kind of made myself depressed? Which is weird because I have used this entire day for LOVING the AI tour. I think this might be the first time for me that the thought of "everything comes to an end" came to me *before* I went all "meh" with the fandom. Maybe it's because AI8 fandom is so far so much similar to AI7 fandom, only ten times bigger. And AI7 lasted just that year, with David Archuleta and David Cook making guest appearances in AI 8, it seems. But thinking positively, I found myself a new artist, who I'm going to follow for a long time :)

Where did the AI7 fandom go, out of curiosity? I mean, these kinds of fandoms seem to attract people who are pan-fandom, or fandom-jumping -- did they all just turn into AI8 fen, or did they go to other fandoms?

I still hear about Cookleta occasionally on my friendslist, actually; apparently I had quite a few bandom friends that shipped it. I do have to wish Kris and Adam would write together - I know they said they don't think they're going to duet (whereas Adam and Allison apparently pretty much definitely are, if they can?) but I'd love to have something that connected them as solo artist. It's kind of silly how, more than the idea of the fandom ending, I'm bothered by the idea of Kris and Adam's friendship fading. LOL sensitive, but I love them both, and together. It's been so long since I've felt that way about people in a fandom that I do not want it to end.

Then again, Kris, Katy and Adam ship Adam/both Allens harder than any of us ever could, so maybe I am worrying for nothing.

I don't know where AI7 went... there seems to be a bunch of them in Insane journal? And, yes, many of AI7 fen seem to be seasoned writers and capable fandom jumpers (not like some AI8 fandom people who were born yesterday...)

And yeah, I, too, want the story of Adam's and Kris' friendship in real life. I hope that it doesn't just fade from the public eye. We need landmarks :)
