Okay, here is the picture that maps the timelines and such of the most popular fandoms. It doesn't include popslash or anime, but otherwise it looks very good. It could still be accurate adding bandslash or general "Real people" to it starting from 2007 or something. I didn't make this, I just downloaded the picture in someone's entry some good time ago and later lost the bookmark. Bad me. So, if you know the author, please tell me so I can credit her.

I wish I could make the same kind of thing. Altghough it would be pretty boring. If I discover some fandom, I tend to stick with it. But it would be nice to see how they multiply during the years.

Generally speaking, that picture is surprisingly accurate. Like,I'm thinking of in what fandoms I started/wisited and are like, Highlander, check, Sentinel, Exfiles, Dues south, check... Expect then I went to anime for a couple of years and then real people for a couple of yearsbefore going back to that flow chart with Stargate Atlantis and Supernatural :)

Dude, I was just looking for that like, yesterday, because I wanted to show it to someone and hadn't saved or bookmarked. So no help in that category but thanks for the perfect timing!

Well, music fanfic has been around at least since the Beatles but from what I understand it's always been pretty self-contained and never interacting much with other fanfic fandoms at all. And bandslash in it's LJ incarnation has been around since 2004-2005 or so - at least that's when the oldest of the comms I know about were created - it's just gotten so much bigger since this summer.

I also note that ST:TOS is lacking from the diagram, as is The Professionals and Blakes 7, and those are some of the earliest fanfic fandoms (1970s IIRC).

Yep, the chart would be better if there would be added popsash and bandslash. The biggest popslash died down sometimes before Justin Timberlake's solo album, and Bandslash got fire... sometimes after Warped tour? And this summer, as it seems. So at lest a self-contained timeline would be good.

And what would be a chart without ST:TOS? Or, maybe this is a fandom-in-the-net chart, following the fandoms only after lj was born. Taken all to account, the chart would need a "time before the net" chart with TS, Blakes 7, Beauty and the Beast and Dr. Who...

I know less about Fall Out Boy but I think MCR fandom took off around when the video for I'm Not Okay was released in the autumn of 2004. And both MCR and FOB was on Warped that summer and the summer after.

How could I forget about DOCTOR WHO??!!! I'm such a bad fangirl :-)
