So. It looks like Livejournal's new policy is to ban fandom people without contacting them before banning and, instead of striking them through, removing the evidence of them ever existing.

First they say that fandom works are okay.

Then they clarify that actually, it's not okay.

Then they start deleting accounts and removing the evidence. They don't make any announcements over changing the policy on showing the banned people. Nice.

But really, my biggest problem is the one that is probably the most common; I somehow thought that LJ was the internet, and not some regulated commercial service. That I wouldn't have to think about decency issues, that I could write like an adult to other adults. Well. Wrong. I just hope that they stop to where they are now, to their interpretation of what is illegal in the States, and that they don't continue further and Disneyficate the whole thing. If they do, I'm gone.

What probably irritates me most is the way LJ/6A is doing it: behind our backs. They don't have the guts to come clean and say "no, we don't want you in our sandbox" but instead they just make journals disappear like this was a tv-movie about some third world country. Okay, an overblown comparison but you know what I mean.

That said, I don't think I'll be renewing my paid account when the time comes in December. There's no reason to support this asshattery.

I hate it when LJ goes sneaky. If they "love and value" their users like they claim they do, why they don't announce the changes beforehand? they must know that the fandom a) will notice, and b) will rise a shit storm.

I will be one of those who will follow after most of the people have moved.

I have a permanent account but luckily I can always change it fr the use of my public, non-fandom persona, if it comes to that.

Well, I'm pissed. All my online activity is centered around LJ, it's really handy. I don't want to leave but I don't want to stand around and be censored either.

I don't do chan so I don't personally have reason to worry - now. But what if they next decide that fan fiction is copyright infringement and will be taken down, or that any even remotely explicit material will be considered obscene. Or that even promoting those things will be banworthy?

Besides what choice do I have? If all the fandom starts to migrate somewhere else what else can I do but follow and use LJ just for RL stuff.

Would it be nice if someone would develop a journal which wouldnt care if you friends used LJ, journalfen, greatestjournal, blogspot of what, it would just gather a friendslist and allow commenting in all those journals. That would be nifty.

That's what Open Id is for, and other tools would exist too. But there probably isn't much incentive for anyone to start really building that, because the core of every site like this (especially LJ and such, general blog sites not so much) is to build their own community, with their own users and stuff. Also, many communities have quite different "cultures" to them, and mixing them together would be problematic (not technically, but socially). So I don't think it's going to happen.

Auts x 14. My Space sai upeaa julkisuutta poistettuaan 30 000 "seksuaalirikollista". Nyt vasta tulin miettineeksi, että olikohan sama meininki sielläkin, eli mikä mahtoi riittää perusteeksi ko. statukseen.

Nyt olisi tilausta pistää pystyyn oma maksullinen vastaava site ja alkaa julkistella sitä pitkin lj-yhteistöä (siihen asti kunnes sinut heitettäisiin ulos) ja luvata 25 %:n alennus entisille lj-asiakkaille :).

Mitenkähän ne meinaavat suhtautua eri kielialueisiin. Ruotsalaisissakin merkinnöissä puhuvat "sex"istä koko ajan... Sju ja åtta lienevät sitten jotain paikallisia pervouksia.

Minä epäilin tuota Myspace juttua jo aikaisemmin. Millä kriteerillä ne on ne etsineet? Tuskin kukaan mainostaa itseään seksuaalirikollisena, joten mitä ne on tehneet? Bannanneet kaikki täysi-ikäiset, jotka on frendanneet alaikäisiä? Poistaneet kaikki joiden sivuilla mainitaan sanat "lapsiporno", pikkuhousut" jne?
