I already decided to buy a permanent lj account when they'll come on sale in next month. But now I'm reconsidering. In a few years all this could be possible:

- all sex-related and adult-related material is banned
- all anonymous posting is banned. Writers are required to write with their real names and provide an electronic id, for example through PayPal.
- pre-moderation of comments is required by law.
- posting of all copyrighted material is banned.

Within the next 5-7 years, this is a perfectly possible scenario. I hope that it will never come to that.

At first I was like, I see no suspended accounts in my friends list! and just went to delete "slash" and "yaoi" from my interests.

But, really, isn't it in lj's TOS that they can and, if reported, have to, suspend accounts with illegal activities? In the future, that could be broadened to include copyright violations, hate speech in comments and any material not suitable for kids.

But then, of course, I could set my blog to my own server. That would be, if not inpossible, at least very inconvenient to sue.

You know I was thinking about the permanent account, too but now? Perhaps not. Also, I wonder if having 'fictional sex' in my interests is enough to get me suspended.

Go check www.effi.org. They're there to prevent your scenario ever happening.

Unfortunately EFFI can do little about services that are hosted in the US, and act according their laws. But other than that, I second the suggestion anyway; they do a lot of good, and there are plenty of people willing to limit your electronic rights here too.
