So. It looks like Livejournal's new policy is to ban fandom people without contacting them before banning and, instead of striking them through, removing the evidence of them ever existing.

First they say that fandom works are okay.

Then they clarify that actually, it's not okay.

Then they start deleting accounts and removing the evidence. They don't make any announcements over changing the policy on showing the banned people. Nice.

But really, my biggest problem is the one that is probably the most common; I somehow thought that LJ was the internet, and not some regulated commercial service. That I wouldn't have to think about decency issues, that I could write like an adult to other adults. Well. Wrong. I just hope that they stop to where they are now, to their interpretation of what is illegal in the States, and that they don't continue further and Disneyficate the whole thing. If they do, I'm gone.

For shit and giggles, I made myself an alternative blog at Greatestjournal. I'm at

http://emmuska.greatestjournal.com/

Some damn girlie had taken Emmuzka with the "z" already, grr. Feel free to friend me, even when I don't plan to update the journal (yet). Tried to make an account on Journalfen.net, too, but they claim that their registering page is missing. Yeah, sure. Either they don't want a) new users, or b) new mac users.

with the fan artists' banning situation: It looks like the movie company that owns the rights for Harry Potter might have something to do with the bannings. Hm. I would choose the copyright owners machining the fangirls tossed over the "to Catch a Pedo" freaks any time.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic wrote an excellent entry about where the social media industry is most probably heading

I agree. It's not about whether or not fictional erotica presenting under-age people should be censored or not. The (American) law says it's illegal, period. It really doesn't matter what we think of the laws. (And as non-american, I can't try to change the laws.) It's now about *how* the censoring will be done; Sneakily and behind the general users' back or with clear policy. I believe that in the long run, in the eyes of law, the user-published material will be treated the same as the officially and commercially published material. The banning-worth material will jump to another medias like paper zines or e-mail groups.
