Finncon X is here!
Aug. 2nd, 2003 08:13 amhuh. The first day in Finncon X in Turku, Finland is almost over. Only the night party and costume contest are left. Tomorrow I'm gonna be a performer, too: I give an 101 on anime (again!) and later I talk two hours about fan fiction (with the live studio audience...) What else?
My self esteem is kinda low, because when I did the anime presentation first time today, there was this terrible man, I didn't hear who, who was like "I give you feedback" and then he told me what all had been wrong (I tried too much to be funny in the beginning, my jokes sucked, there were inside jokes etc. I had thought it went pretty well.) He said that " There will be that anime convention in Helsinki in the fall, and nobody's laughing, there!" I was like, Is this man real? I'm not even trying to present myself as some kind of expert on the subject. He will be there tomorrow to listen me again and he asked my e-mail so he could give me written feedback. Like I already said, can he be real?

Date: 2003-08-02 10:09 am (UTC)Well, that will be one very boring con then! And this is anime, not quantum physics, we're talking about. I don't think there's some arcane rule that says you have to be boring and academical when talking about anime, and if there is, those people are crazier than I thought. [g] Don't mind him! He sounds like a pretentious git. I'm coming to see this tomorrow morning, and if you want an opinion from someone who doesn't understand a thing about anime afterwards, I'm perfectly willing to give it to you.
Take it easy if you can
Date: 2003-08-04 04:53 am (UTC)About that guy... low self-esteem shows through so well. This guy seems to be one of the people who have to try to humiliate others to feel themselves valuable. Anyway, there are two kinds of feedback giving: 1. about the issue of the presentation (he didn't give any of that - too bad because that would have been valuable to you) and 2. about the style of the presenter. If the only "feedback" he gave was about how "bad" he thought you were, it only shows how low-esteemed person he is.
I hope you got feedback from others too, I wish I had been able to come and have that 101 anime course. :-) Also, if you have given that presentation before, they must have liked you enough to want to ask you again!
Take it easy if you can, part 2
Date: 2003-08-04 04:59 am (UTC)Some badly nerdy guys think that if they can "teach" you how you could get to be a better person, you would fall for them immediately. And he did want to get your email address!
