Went to see Sin City last night. Everyone says that it's a love-it-or-hate-it- kind of movie, but I thought that it was kinda blah. Not good. Not bad. Just blah. As I am a fan of the original comics, I was waiting for something great, but no. The great inner monologues from the comics sounded corny. Originally there was time for the reader to feel affection for the characters, now none of them was likable. There was no plot for the audience to discover, the only thing left for the viewer was to sit back and watch all the pretty.

Okay, can anyone rec me Harry Potter fics? One of my sisters just finished the Half blooded Prince and now she feels all hollow and empty. I promised her a fic fix. So, I need good, long fics, preferably Harry/Ginny or other het, but slash works too. Has to be good and suitable for an intelligent beginner who might have problems with the suspension of disbelief. I would be grateful for help.

Mitzi should know both Harry/Ginny stuff and slash. I used to read a lot of Ron/Hermione, but don't have any really good ones in mind right now. I once lost most of my fanfic URLs and haven't had time or energy to try and find them again.
But I'll see what I can do. I'll be back if I find any of my old favourites.

That would be nice, thank you. I havent read Potter for a year or two so I have no idea where the fandom is going. And I have to go bug Mitzi.

Very funny, I don't touch Harry/Ginny with a ten feet pole. It's Rowanna who likes it.

But slash I can recommend. Check out the ones I recced for [livejournal.com profile] rowanna73, especially the long ones Transfigurations and Stealing Harry.

Just make her clear that the first one was written before OotP and the second one is a complete AU. And there is sex, though Stealing Harry has alternative sex-free chapters (for sissies).

I second the rec of Stealing Harry! It's well-written and has very nice characterizations of Remus and Sirius, and Snape too!

Eh, who said I'd like to read H/G in fanfic? It great in canon, but it's really Draco/Ginny that gives me the kicks ;)

If your sister has read and liked Dorothy L Sayer's Lord Peter Wimsey-books then direct her imediately to A J Hall's Lust over Pendle. It's slash, but really mostly gen and it's intelligent, witty, touching, funny, and many other adjectives indicating extreme readability. It's novel-lenght and takes place a couple of years after Recent Events.

I've a friend who swears by this author. I haven't personally read any of the fics, but you might pass it on. On the slash front, I'm wholeheartedly behind Stealing Harry, for one.

I'm still a bit ambivalent about Sin City. Great look, seriously awesome feel but the dialogue was way too often corny when they should have kept things silent.

(Everybody and their cousin has been raving about Rosario Dawson and how the character was so cool but I'm kinda....blah.)

Have you been reading the House of M stories? Any opinions?
