And now, a tutorial of how I make these annoyingly cute (or not) pics. Just because I have always wanted to make a tutorial.

First, I need an original. I can make pictures without them, but this way it's easier and more fun. I prefer pics that I have in printed paper so I don't have to squint on the screen. If possible, I choose a pic where they are fully shown, with as little props and as much details in their clothes as I can find.

Then, sketching. (Sorry I used a wrong scanner setting so that the pic isn't very clear.) I try to capture their postures. Do they lean to something? Which leg they use more when standing? I try to make their heads really big at this point since they tend to get smaller as I go to the details.

This is the fun part, finishing and detailing. I try to add as much of the fixed characteristics as I can to make them look like themselves. Also, folds! Too big feet and trouser legs!

Then, ink. I used 0,5mm in this, which is quite thick. I never use shadowing when working with this style, so I have to add at least one purely black area to make it less monotone.

And then the fun part. (not) Erasing! After cleaning up the picture I scan the pic with a scanner setting that ignores small smudges (the same setting that I accidentally scanned the sketch pic with). If there is any mistakes or whatnot, I can change them with photoshop, but usually I don't use it.

This is the final pic. JC's and Chris' jeans are good, the same as Lance's posture, but Justin isn't that great. But this is a learning process, right?

The sad part is, I'm still perplexed by the whole affair. Sometimes my sister starts talking art-things at me and I'm all, "Guh? Juh? Zuh?" and then she abandons me to my stupidity. *g*

But I can say that the end result is charming -- they have such a sweet, soft, plush-toy feel to them in your drawings! And I love the "big feet" look. Hee!

Thanks! It was fun to document the different stages of a picture.

I know, the first jump from photo to a sketch can be a big one for some.
and Plushie!Nsync! Whee!

Anyhow, I can't write a fic worth much, but these I know how to make. A contribution to the fandom? I would like to think so.
