It took me a while to figure out what was creeping me out in the first pictures: I think it's the lack of eyebrows. Without them to indicate the mood, the face looks strangely dead.
The subjects' poses remind me of the past anthropologists and their encounters with natives all over the world: "And then we measured their skulls and took notes on their shape and this indicates blah blah..." with accompanying photos of serious-looking naked people with pincers around their head. They always make me uncomfortable.
