This is to the Not-Finns in my F-list.
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual contest that have been running over fifty years. Everyone watches it, so it's not a minority competition. Still, the Europeans like carnevalistic aspects of the contest and there has been always an amount of gay, transgender or othervise "controversial" performers. The contest was held yesterday. Since Finland won last year with it's monster rock band Lordi (Yay!), it hosted the show.
And the Winner is: Serbia! Most points received Marija Serifovic with her song "Molitva" (Prayer). This is the first time after the contest transferred to audience tele voting (ala American Idol) that a ballad has won.
The second came Ukraine, with Verka Serdyuchka's "Dancing". Mr. Serdyuchka is actually and actor with this performance by one of his alter egos. This sing was considered controversial, -not because the Dancing Discoball look-, but because of the lyrics of "I want to see goodbuy to Russa", which could have seen as a political statement.
For the third came Russia, with "Song #1" by Serebro. The girl group was gathered together especially for the contest and it kinda shows. The lyrics are truly hilarious and go like "Put your cherry on my cake and taste my cherry pie..". I'm sure that the part that goes "I will blow away all you money" will be quickly changed for "I will blow you for your money" :)
Since tis is an audience participation thing, I of cource had to vote. I woted for Ukraine and for Bulgaria, who had this weird ethno-drumming-trance-thing going on.
