Today I throughly sold Stargate Atlantis to a friend and almost sold it to two others. So:

Why Stargate Atlantis is a good show, by Emma, 28 year old.

Do not confuse this series with the original SG-1. To be honest, I haven't watched it in years. This series has all new premise, cast and (as of my knowledge), different screen writers.

- it's not a star vehicle to anyone (*cough cough, Richard Dean Anderson, cough cough*)
- Almost all the characters are likable, real and interesting. Yes, even the female leader, the "hero" and the "geek". No annoying sidekicks (Wesley, anyone?), no "the stupid one" and no token alien in sight. Ok, Teyla could posses a little more character and her people are annoying "simple folks", but their appearances are scarce.
- Great casting. I'd like to believe that when choosing characters, the producers have concentrated on the on-screen chemistry between the actors. Plus, the actors can act, which is always appropriate.
- the reworking of cliches. So far there have been only one "sexy alien woman"-plot and even then, they actually mentioned Captain Kirk on the dialog.
- They have something like 6 dollar budged per episode, but god, they try! It doesn't matter if all the location shoots are in that same Canadian forest. Who cares if one can spot the matte paintings and spray painted cardboard, the story is still good.
- Nice uniforms. Real nice.
- The banter and the snark. ("Well, this is strange" - "define strange." -"You don't know what strange means?")
- Good adventures in a good company. What's not to like?
