a Question

Q: When you start reading your friends list after being away a little while (like a night), do you start from the newest one and scroll down, or do you skip pages until you see familiar entries and then read them from the oldest to the newest? Or do you use some other method?

LOL I just went throught that this evening. I usually start at the newest and just work my way back to the last post I remember seeing.

I start with the last entry I read before I left... provided it's not at skip 1 gazillion.

That's the easiest way, to just start reading. but then one has to be careful to notice if there s a "continuing story" from some lj friend. I sometimes tend to ask stupid thing on comments because I haven't read the whole story yet...

heh heh.. I do that too. If I've been away days there is always a load of stuff to go through. The problem for me is that I want to read it all in one sitting from oldest to the newest and that means skipping the fics for the later reading and then... Um, what I was supposed to read again? Was there a fic in somewhere in skip=120? I should remember to bookmark what I'm skipping but I never do.

I start from the newest one. And sometimes it makes me go What on earth are these people talking about?

I'm terrible about keeping up when I've been away. I start at the top and then scroll down until my eyes get tired, which usually happens pretty quickly, and then I leave a note apologizing for not reading anybody's entries and ask for them to comment me with their updates. hehe.

Same thing here, especially with some lj drama, like that frienditto thing, or new footage or pictures that everyone is already commenting when we are like "what pictures?"

That's one way to do it :)
I won't do that if I can help it, because of the irrational fear of *missing something important!*, but no one can make actually *read* everything that is written in my friends list ;)

I think this is mostly an European problem. Most people on my FL live in the USA. The time difference is 6-10 hours, which means they update when I'm asleep. Then in the morning there are 30 new entries, but then nobody updates during the day, which is a very bad thing if you're bored :).

Ah. Anything that I want to read later, like fic or external links somebody is pimping, I open in a new browser tab. So once I'm done with the flist, I can close that tab and start in on the next one... works quite well, provided your browser/system is reasonable stable and doesn't crash very often.
